State House Fellowship Program 2011 Fellows
Naomi You Hometown: Springfield, Virginia and Korea

School/Major: Boston University/B.A. in Political Science |  Ethnicity: Korean-American | Other Language(s): Korean

What I believe:  When I first started the fellowship, I found myself constantly scanning rooms during events for faces like mine and often found none.  Seeing is believing. The more young Asian-American faces there are like mine in politics, the more we can inspire others that they can be in politics too and maybe achieve even more.

What AAWPI means to me: Without this fellowship, I would never have believed that being in politics was attainable for me. The road to getting involved is lengthy, and everything was overwhelming from the start. I did not know the right names, important issues, and felt very ignorant for not being more politically engaged earlier. AAWPI covered all of that for me. It was a safe place where I could learn from the best.

What I'm doing now:  I landed my first job through this fellowship! I'm working as a legislative staffer to State Senator Harriette Chandler (D-Worcester)!

Placement: State Senator Harriette Chandler (D-Worcester),
